Small GCSE Maths Resit Groups
Small groups are designed for students who benefit from individual attention while also learning alongside others working towards the same goal.
With a maximum of four students, there is time to identify misconceptions, practise exam questions and give each student meaningful support.
Students will work on:
Essential number, algebra, ratio and geometry skills
Topics that caused difficulty in the previous exam
Exam technique and problem-solving
Showing clear mathematical working
Calculator and non-calculator strategies
Managing time and checking answers
Building confidence ahead of the resit
Why choose a small group?
Groups are deliberately kept small so that every student can participate, ask questions and receive direct feedback.
Supportive learning environment
Students often feel reassured when they realise they are not the only person finding certain topics difficult.
Although students learn together, tuition is adapted to their current level, knowledge gaps and target grade.
Small group tuition provides personalised teaching at a lower cost than one-to-one tuition.
Who is resit tuition suitable for?
Resit tuition may be suitable for students who:
Need to achieve a grade 4 or above
Want to improve their grade for college, sixth form or employment
Lack confidence in Maths
Find it difficult to apply classroom learning in exams
Need help identifying and correcting knowledge gaps
Would benefit from regular structure and accountability
What happens before tuition begins?
Before recommending a group, I will discuss the student’s previous result, current confidence and areas of difficulty.
Where appropriate, I may also use an initial assessment to identify the topics that need the most attention.
Students will then be placed with others working at a broadly similar level.
Online or face-to-face tuition
Online lessons take place using Pencil Spaces, an interactive teaching platform that allows us to work through questions together in real time.
Online tuition is available to students throughout the UK.
Face-to-face lessons are available in Hedge End, near Southampton.
Suitable for two friends, siblings or students working at a similar level.
Suitable for students who need particularly intensive or highly individualised support.
